May be able to tag a VFX guy onto this.

Had a really good idea for this but in order to keep costs down the parts would need to be done by end Aug/beginning Sept.

Competition closes 26th October.

The brief is:

WHAT IS KINETIC?
The brief for The Daily Telegraph/Ford Mondeo Short Film Challenge
is to create a three-minute film which embodies and brings to life the
adjective ?Kinetic?.
What does this mean? The dictionary definition is:
Kinetic: adj. Relating to, caused by, or producing motion.
From a designers? perspective, it is all about making objects seem as
if they are moving, or poised to move. Take a car, for example. It?s
about making it look dynamic (fast) even when it is stationary,
delivered in a way that is aesthetically and emotionally appealing.
For this challenge, we want your take on ?kinetic?, and it can relate to
moving object that inspires you.
Some words that might inspire you are: athletic, dynamic, agile,
expressive, active, energetic, powerful, sleek, brisk, muscular and
flow.
Good luck!

Upon reading the rules, the film must be no longer than 3 minutes long including the credits. Which means it can be shorter than 3 minutes, which is probably a good thing.

Stylistically the theme of "kinetic design" is asking to fall into realms of trite clich?.

Gyroscope and Perpetual Motion spring to mind along with certain Escher illusions and the Mobius strip.

The only constant is change.

Shift happens.

To be honest I'm not interested in paying to participate.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Me neither. It costs me a small fortune to get to London. Most actors live in London anyway. Why the preferential treatment?

To be honest my first thought was to ditch actors and maybe go with animation.

Soooooooooooooo much easier in the long run.

I say we do a porn. Plenty of kinetic energy there... and it does not have to take more than 3 minutes.

then we'll need an animator.

porn is banned in the rules.

whether we use cardboard cut-outs or decide to animate, still need that important starting point of an idea with some legs ....

given this is a competition, would it not be best to voice ideas privately to reduce the chance of being ripped off?

we could come up with the best idea ever and someone else could have a similar one but i see no sense in 'giving' away ideas!

Mike, I have an idea (with legs) but access to said legs is time sensitive - end Aug/begin Sept.

Kiddie: don't get excited. The ideas floating around so far are not worth stealing. Furthermore, all ideas are only as good as their execution.

Since we seem to be reluctant to pay then let's scrap actors, locations etc. and do a stop-motion film (using e.g. http://www.stopmotion-software.com) with toys. I can contribute a Canon EOS 5D and a pair of Bowen Esprit 500s. What I need is loads of Lego, model railways or similar stuff - and a script!

JB: I remember you having done stop-motion before. Would that float your boat?

Christian Marcussen: we can do stop-motion lego porn and throw in Thomas the Tank Engine as well as inflatable vegetables for good measure. Doubt that this will win a prize, though...

An idea which should help kickstart this: how about a spoof of Mason vs Princess' "Perfection"? Watch the original here:

[nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZME80DWa9dk"]YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.[/nomedia]

Would that be agreeable to the group? Please advise.

Now I'm hurt assyrix!

Working on a nil budget shouldn't necessarily mean you have to ditch actors?

That's a very bold brush your using young man!!
